Heart Health  by Spence Masson

Maintaining and supporting the health of the heart and the circulatory system.

NSP carries several products associated with maintaining the health of the heart and the circulatory system in general. The most recent addition to the family is Blood Pressurex. for full details.

We also have several "old favourites" that are known to help support cardiovascular health:
Coenzyme Q10 is found in each cell of the body and is intimately involved in energy metabolism. In the bloodstream, Coenzyme Q10 helps prevent the oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL). It is thought that the damage caused by oxidation of LDL lipoproteins eventually leads to the formation of plaque in our arteries, which leads to various circulatory system problems. Hence, Coenzyme Q10 is an important nutrient that may help reduce the risk of arterial damage and cardiovascular disease. Coenzyme Q10 is also believed to strengthen the heart muscle and support a regular heart rhythm.

Like CoQ10, Lecithin is found in each cell of the body. Lecithin promotes heart health in two ways: 1) it contains linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that aids in the production of prostaglandins, some of which help regulate blood pressure and heart rate; 2) lecithin is a natural emulsifier, which not only helps the body absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins, but also helps the body to eliminate excess fat. In this way the vital organs and arteries are protected from fatty build-up which can lead to serious complications like heart disease.

Hawthorn is known as the heart herb for its many benefits as a heart tonic. Its traditional uses include strengthening and normalizing the heartbeat, prevention/reduction of heart arrhythmias, treatment of angina and guarding the heart against oxygen deficiency. For the extra circulatory benefits of ginkgo biloba, consider our Ginkgo/Hawthorn.

And don't forget good old Vitamin E! This essential nutrient plays a vital role in cardiac cell respiration and improves blood flow by dilating blood vessels, inhibiting blood clotting and strengthening capillary walls. NSP's Vitamin E with Selenium is the best choice for vitamin E supplementation. Each capsule provides 400 IU of natural vitamin E plus 25 mcg of selenium. Selenium and vitamin E work together to boost each other's power. A vitamin E supplement without selenium just isn't as effective as one that does contain this essential mineral.
